FAQ
1. Why do some areas of my velour play mat look lighter or darker?
This is a unique and playful characteristic of velour and velvet-like surfaces, often referred to as the "nap effect." The soft pile naturally shifts in different directions, causing light and shadows to vary beautifully.
Children love playing with this effect: they can create car tracks on the surface or draw "magical" patterns with their fingers. Once smoothed out, the surface becomes even and streak-free again.
This effect is completely normal and does not affect the softness, quality, or durability of the rug. It remains wonderfully soft, comfortable, and safe for playing and relaxing.
2. Can I wash my velour play mat, and will it remain soft and firm afterwards?
Absolutely! Our play mats can be safely washed according to the care instructions on the label, so they'll be fresh and clean again for your little one.
When washed correctly, the mat retains its softness, comfort, and shape — ready for many more moments of play, crawling, and relaxing.
3. How sustainable and ethically responsible are your rugs and play mats?
Our play mats are produced in factories that comply with international standards for workplace safety and ethical labor practices. This means everyone involved in the production process works in safe and respectful conditions.
In terms of environmental sustainability, our mats are made from 100% polyester. Thanks to their long lifespan and durability, they are a responsible choice for long-term use.
They can simply be washed in the washing machine at 30°C, helping them stay clean and fresh for years to come — reducing the need for frequent replacement.
4. Do the PVC anti-slip dots on the bottom of Mats & Joy play mats contain plasticizers?
Yes. Like any PVC or vinyl product, plasticizers are used to keep the material flexible and supple.
Important to know:
-
Our play mats / PVC anti-slip dots are phthalate-free. This means they do not contain harmful plasticizers.
-
The plasticizers used fully comply with current European safety regulations.
-
The mats are CE- and EN71-compliant and tested for child safety.
The materials are safe for use in home environments and are specifically designed with playing children in mind.
5. How do I properly care for my Mats & Joy Playmat?
A Mats & Joy playmat is designed for daily, intensive use and is easy to maintain.
For regular care, vacuuming on a low setting is sufficient. Small stains should be removed as soon as possible using a slightly damp cloth or a mild carpet cleaner. Avoid aggressive cleaning products.
If a more thorough cleaning is needed, the playmat can be washed on a delicate cycle at 30°C, with low spin speed, a small amount of detergent, and without fabric softener. Do not use a wool program. Wash the playmat separately and ensure the washing machine has enough space.
After washing, allow the mat to dry flat. The playmat is not suitable for tumble drying, dry cleaning, bleaching, or ironing.
As with any textile product, the less frequently you wash it, the better it is for the longevity of the fibers and the print. Only wash when necessary.
